Raw cannabis contains the plant cannabinoids, CBD and THC, in their acidic form: CBD-Acid and THC-acid. They are the precursor or “mother compound” of CBD and THC. When heated or dried, CBD-Acid and THC-Acid turns into CBD and THC.
The benefits of the acidic forms of cannabinoids are numerous. For one, they offer a higher bioavailability which means it penetrates through the cell membrane faster and smoother than the heated cannabinoids.
Unlike THC, its precursor, THC-Acid, is non-psychoactive. It offers all the benefits without the high, which means that it can be consumed daily and in higher doses.

Recent study on CBD-Acid was finally possible, as researchers found out how to synthesise it. Since CBD-Acid is primarily found in the fresh plant, it would quickly change its chemistry and turn into CBD. “We took a cannabidiol acid and we stabilized it by a simple chemical procedure, called esterification; then the compound is stable,” Swisa explained.
The team then “started looking at the activities of this compound…and found that this particular compound causes suppression of anxiety and suppression of nausea,” he continued, adding that this could make a huge difference in cancer patients on chemotherapy, as well as patients with IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) or Psoriasis.
